The story of SBU traces back to Switchboard Utilities, from which today’s Switchboards Unlimited evolved. Since 1976, the company has grown alongside the South African electrical industry, continually adapting its manufacturing processes, product offering and technology to meet changing market demands.
One of the company’s most significant milestones was the transition from traditional sheet metal fabrication methods to advanced CNC manufacturing and laser-cutting technology. This commitment to innovation remains a core part of SBU’s identity today.

THE HERITAGE OF THE SU RANGE
The SU range traces its origins to Switchboard Utilities, the predecessor to today’s Switchboards Unlimited. First manufactured by the same organisation that continues to produce it today, the SU range became one of the most recognised enclosure and distribution board product families in the South African electrical industry.
Today, SBU continues to manufacture and develop products built on the same foundation of practical design, reliability and local manufacturing expertise that established the range decades ago.
